PCT Barker Pass to I80 Boreal (2008.10.27)

I tagged along for another section of Adam T's attempt to do the PCT in segments over his life time. This section was a 32 mile ridge line ride from Barker Pass (near Tahoe City) to I80 Boreal Ski Resort. Adam S. was kind enough to drop us on the Pass around 11pm on Friday night and we hiked out until about 1:30am or so, put down camp on the trail and got midnight no-light new moon views of lake Tahoe to the East and Sacromento's lights to the west. The next morning we tore up nearly 20miles of trail with the most significant feeling piece being the climb up Tinker's Knob at around 8900ft. The weather was incredibly warm and still. I hiked most of saturday without a shirt, because it was just that nice...I now have a very funny farmer's tan meets overalls look going. We bedded down a mile or so from the Knob where there was an amazing view of Truckee and the American River Canyon cutting westward through the Sierras. The next morning we woke before sun and sped through 11miles through Donner Pass and out to Boreal. We then met up with Adam S for breakfast at the Squeeze Inn. Here are a couple of photos from the trip:
